A note for the asking

Dear Readers

Firstly, if you are reading this please let me know. I am currently under the impression that only my lecturer and mother read my blog, and well, it would be lovely knowing that someone reads this because they actually want to. So first port of call after reading this would be to post a comment please!

Now assuming that you've posted a comment, here is what I plan to do with that comment:
- I am simply collecting your thoughts and comments on my blog, and am not really interested in your personal details
- I will then moderate your comment before allowing it to be published under my post
- I will not manipulate the information provided (if it makes me a tad upset I will simply not post it), nor will I hand out your personal details that may accompany it

According to the web.tech.law blog, this sort of privacy policy is required on all blogs so that you lot can't sue me for defamation, intellectual property infringement or copyright infringement. Apparently my three little bullet points above can be considered a risk management tool- fancy little label for something that didn't require any HTML coding or other computery stuff that befuddles little noob me.

But now my question is, if you want to comment on my blog, surely you should be the one held liable for whatever you say, or the information you hand out? (Please don't change your mind about commenting now, I would really like it) It's just that, I'm not forcing you to comment am I? Okay so maybe I try persuading my mom to, but otherwise it's a free world, you don't HAVE to comment. So if you, out of your free will, take the time to leave a little thoughtful something, or a little defamatory something- surely the onus is on you to be held accountable or responsible. I'm already going through the effort of trying to keep my blog all legal and ethical (considering that it would be a rather huge embarrassment making a legal blunder on a blog called "Ethics for Noobs"), surely it can't be my responsibility to censor your thoughts too??

Right, that said, what do you think? Leave a comment :)

  1. Well this seems pretty legitimate. But if I were to call you a sad loser, would that count as defamation and therefore be stricken? Who would do the moderating of such comments? You? Is there room for subjectivity when determining defamation or is it a simple swearword detector or something to that effect?

  2. the previous comment reads suspiciously like a "newmediajude" comment... But Lauren, I am not your mom, nor your lecturer, and I read your blog :)
